Dear New Sweet Briar Student,
Alcohol misuse is one of the most serious issues facing today’s colleges. The Sweet Briar Community is committed to confronting this issue with a combination of education and prevention of alcohol-related consequences among our students. We know that a substantial percentage of college students drink in moderation in addition to the 20% or so who abstain from alcohol altogether. However, a number of students misuse alcohol and create disruption in their own lives and the lives of other community members.
Sweet Briar encourages students to make safe, healthy and legal choices about personal alcohol use on non-use. As such, we would like all students to have a basic understanding of alcohol-related issues on campus. We are asking all new students to complete CollegeAlc, an on-line alcohol education program. This 90-minute course focuses on building skills to avoid alcohol-related consequences, learning how to handle alcohol-related emergencies, and developing strategies to help others who struggle with alcohol misuse. We wish you a healthy, positive and successful college experience!
Sincerely,
The Sweet Briar Wellness Program
